As part of this year’s celebration of World Teachers’ Day with the theme “Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession,” the Philippine Normal University hosted a program on October 8, 2025, at the University Gymnasium, honoring its teachers and professors, celebrating their excellence and dedication to the profession. Students were given the chance to express their gratitude to PNU educators as they were recognized throughout the event.
October 2025 – Mary Ann M. Palencia
Dr. Mary Ann M. Palencia is a distinguished educator, researcher, and community leader with over 22 years of teaching experience across the Philippines and the United States. Hailing from Balingayan, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro, she has dedicated her career to making science accessible, engaging, and inclusive—especially for “at-promise” learners in trauma-informed schools.
International Universities Share Assessment Practices in Teacher Education to Inform Philippine Research
As part of its commitment to improving teacher education in the Philippines, the Philippine Normal University (PNU), supported by the Teacher Education Council (TEC), is undertaking a major research project titled “Development of a Model of Learning Outcomes Assessment Plan in Teacher Education Programs”. The study aims to develop a comprehensive learning outcomes assessment model that can serve as a national benchmark for evaluating teacher education curricula across the country. The proposed model will encompass frameworks and tools to assess the three core components of teacher education programs: General Education, Professional Education, and Specialization.
1628 LiSQUP completers of certificates and diplomas attend 117th commencement exercises
To celebrate a significant milestone in their PNU journey, 1,628 scholar-completers of the Linking Standards & Quality Practice (LiSQuP) scholarship program attended the Philippine Normal University’s (PNU) 117th Commencement Exercises on September 9-10, 2025, at the Manila Hotel Tent City. The scholars received notable recognition through graduate and postgraduate certificates and diplomas for their successful achievement in LiSQuP. The program featured the theme, “Hinubog na Kahusayan: Ang Panibagong Landas ng PNU sa Edukasyong Pangguro,” reflecting the historical and transformative contributions of PNU, as the National Center for Teacher Education.

One of the most highly anticipated days for every PNUan once again arrived as the Philippine Normal University proudly held its 117th Commencement Exercises and related activities from September 8 to 10, 2025. The momentous occasion took place at the University Gymnasium and the Tent City, Manila Hotel, bringing together graduates, faculty members, families, and distinguished guests to celebrate the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and academic excellence.
PNU honors two distinguished educators with professor emerita title
The Philippine Normal University, the National Center for Teacher Education, conferred the prestigious title of Professor Emeritae on two of its most accomplished faculty members, Dr. Wilma S. Reyes and Dr. Erminda C. Fortes, in a solemn ceremony held on September 2, 2025, at the PNU Gymnasium in Manila.
PNU Timog Luzon, isinagawa ang ika-30 Seremonya ng Pagtatapos; humigit kumulang 150 mag-aaral, ginawaran ng mga digri
Bilang isang makabuluhang pagdiriwang ng kahusayan, ang pamayanan ng PNU Timog Luzon sa Lopez, Quezon ay isinagawa ang ika-30 Seremonya ng Pagtatapos kahapon, ika-12 ng Agosto 2025. 144 na mag-aaral sa antas di-gradwado ang ginawaran ng kanilang mga digri. Sa bilang na ito, 53 ang nagkamit ng karangalang Cum laude, 49 naman ang nagkamit ng Magna Cum Laude, at isa ang nakakuha ng karangalang Summa Cum laude.
279 na mag-aaral ipinagdiwang ang pagtatapos sa PNU Visayas, 25 nakakuha ng Diploma sa Edukasyong Pangkapaligiran
Ipinagdiwang ng komunidad ng PNU Visayas ang maluwalhating pagtatapos ng 279 na mag-aaral sa naganap na ika-52 Seremonya ng Pagtatapos na idinaos kahapon, ika-5 ng Agosto 2025, sa Cadiz City Arena, Lungsod ng Cadiz, Negros Occidental. Ang Seremonya ng Pagtatapos ay may temang “Hinubog na Kahusayan: Ang Panibagong Landas ng PNU sa Edukasyong Pangguro”. Sa bilang na ito, 254 ang mula sa antas di-gradwado at 25 naman ang mula sa programang post baccalaureate na Diploma in Environment and Green Technology Education. Mula sa bilang ng mga nagtapos sa antas di-gradwado, 161 ang nagkamit ng karangalang Magna Cum Laude at 71 naman ang Cum Laude.
PNU NL, idinaos ang Ika-49 na Seremonya ng Pagtatapos; 235 nakatanggap ng kanilang mga digri na may kalakip na sertipiko at diploma sa IPED
Idinaos ng Pamantasang Normal ng Pilipinas – Hilagang Luzon ang ika-49 nitong Seremonya ng Pagtatapos noong nakaraang Sabado, ika-2 ng Agosto, 2025 sa Pampamantasang Gymnasium. Sa nasabing programa ay pormal na iginawad sa 235 na nagsipagtapos sa antas di-gradwado ang kani-kanilang mga digri, kung saan 105 ang cum laude at 54 ang magna cum laude. Sa unang pagkakataon, iginawad din sa lahat ng mga nagsipagtapos sa antas di-gradwado ang Sertipiko sa Pagtuturo sa Pangkatutubong Edukasyong Pangguro. Binigyang pagkilala rin ang labing dalawang (12) indibidwal na nakapagtapos ng programang Diploma sa Pagtuturo sa Pangkatutubong Edukasyong Pangguro. Samantala, 15 rin ang nakapagtapos sa antas gradwado.
August 2025 – Ester Alama Futalan
Si Atty. Ester A. Futalan ay isang dedikado at huwarang tagapaglingkod sa larangan ng edukasyon at batas. Nagtapos siya noong 1994 sa Philippine Normal University Agusan Campus (na ngayon ay Mindanao Campus) ng kursong Batsilyer sa Edukasyong Pang-elementarya na may espesyalisasyon sa Ingles. Bilang mag-aaral, naging aktibo siyang pinuno at ginawaran ng Gantimpala sa Pamumuno.
PNU BOR approves university guidelines on generative AI-assisted authorship
Recognizing the importance of academic integrity and ethical considerations, the PNU-BOR, during its second quarter regular meeting last July 2, 2025, approved the university guidelines, endorsed by the Academic Council, on generative AI-assisted authorship in scholarly, scientific, and creative work. The guidelines apply to academic coursework, research, instructional materials, communication, and documentation across academic and administrative functions in the university that apply to the faculty, students, staff, and affiliated researchers.

PNU Officials present Research Findings and Recommendations to Education Policymakers at Ateneo-EDCOM 2 Research Conference
The final research presentation for the Research Fellows of Ateneo-EDCOM 2 (The Second Congressional Commission on Education) was held on June 25, 2025, at the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law on Rockwell Drive, Makati City. This event provided an opportunity for the scholars involved in the year-long research fellowship to present their findings and recommendations to key education leaders and policymakers, aiming to address the Priority Areas of EDCOM 2. Presentations and discussions sparked conversations on strengthening early childhood learning resources, supporting teaching and learning environments, understanding needs to improve practices in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and lifelong learning, revisiting teacher education, promoting educational leadership, and streamlining policies across basic and higher education sectors.
