A highlight of the recent official trip of the PNU delegation to Ethiopia is the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kotebe University of Education (KUE) on November 6, 2025. Under the said understanding, PNU, the National Center for Teacher Education of the Philippines, formalizes avenues for collaboration on teacher education, research, and academic mobility with KUE, one of Ethiopia’s prominent educational institutions.
PNU’s delegation was composed of the University President, Dr. Bert J. Tuga, and Research Institute for Teacher Quality (RITQ) Director, Dr. Brando C. Palomar. Meanwhile, the signing of the MOU was facilitated by PNU’s former visiting professor, Dr. Mekasha Kassaye Gobaw, and Linkages and International Office Director, Asst. Prof. Bryan C. Dayuta.
In his message, President Tuga underscored the value of forging the said understanding in endeavors being undertaken by both institutions related to education reforms. Being the first visit of PNU to Africa, President Tuga expressed his confidence that this initial encounter will mark the start of a deeper partnership with institutions that share the same advocacy of championing education and teacher education quality.
The understanding was signed on behalf of KUE by its University President, Dr. Teshome Nekatibeb, who also warmly welcomed the delegation from PNU. He considers the said meeting as an “important milestone” in KUE’s bid to become an epitome of excellence in the field of education.
Both institutions expressed optimism that the partnership will pave the way for joint projects, faculty and student exchanges, and collaborative studies focusing on teacher education innovations and global best practices.
