As it champions excellence in the field of teacher education, the Philippine Normal University (PNU) celebrated the career advancement of its educators during the Oath-Taking Ceremony of Newly Promoted Faculty under the 2026 Merit System Promotion (MSP). The brief yet meaningful activity took place on September 16, 2026, at the Geronima T. Pecson Main Auditorium.

A total of 42 faculty members successfully secured their promotions across various academic ranks. Specifically, the newly promoted educators include two faculty members who were promoted to Instructor III, and ten who advanced to Assistant Professor I-V. Furthermore, the cohort includes twenty-three faculty members who were elevated to Associate Professor I-V, while seven achieved the rank of Professor I-VI.

The ceremony commenced with an audio-visual doxology presentation, followed by opening remarks delivered by Dr. Marilyn U. Balagtas, Vice President for Academics. PNU President Dr. Bert J. Tuga addressed the attendees with a special message and formally administered the oath of office for the promoted faculty members.

To provide context on the academic advancements, Dr. Rene R. Belecina, Chair of the Faculty Evaluation Committee, delivered a brief report detailing the rigorous 2026 MSP process. Following this report, the official presentation of the newly promoted faculty was led by Ms. Maribel G. Gerundio, Director of the Human Resource Management and Development Office.

After taking their oaths, Prof. Elanor O. Bayten, Associate Professor V, and Dr. Elvira A. Chua, Professor V, delivered the statement of commitment on behalf of the honorees. The program concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Lordinio A. Vergara, Vice President for Finance and Administration.

These promotions not only recognize the enduring dedication and scholarly achievements of the faculty, but also reaffirm PNU’s mandate as the country’s National Center for Teacher Education. As these newly promoted educators step into their elevated roles, they carry forward a renewed drive to foster academic excellence, inspire innovative research, and shape the next generation of transformative Filipino teachers.
