Dr. Isagani M. Celzo, a proud alumnus of the Philippine Normal University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics for Teachers (2000), is a renowned educator. His 25-year career spanning the Philippines, the United States, and Singapore serves as a significant testament to the revolutionary impact of education. Driven by conviction and characterized by dedication, his life’s purpose has been to shed light on avenues where hope appeared faint and to demonstrate that education, rooted in empathy and belief, has the power to alter the trajectory of lives and communities.
Dr. Celzo’s path, from modest beginnings to guiding successful educational institutions, illustrates the impactful role of learning and mentorship. He has dedicated his life to promoting equality and fairness, based on the conviction that all children, no matter their situation, merit the opportunity to succeed. To him, education has always extended beyond the boundaries of the classroom; it is a mission to uplift lives, inspire hope, and foster enduring transformation.
As a school leader, he acted as a catalyst for change, turning a previously low-achieving school in Los Angeles into one of the district’s most recognized and top-performing establishments. A pivotal moment in his career occurred when he helped establish the School of Social Justice, a cause arising not from privilege but from determination. During an era when the educational institution was facing closure and spirits were at their lowest, he opted for bravery instead of ease, uniting with like-minded educators to rethink education as a catalyst for change. Together, they rebuilt a community of meaning, connection, and empowerment. What started as a struggle for a single school emerged as a symbol of hope for numerous individuals, demonstrating that through vision and solidarity, education can restore futures.
