Through a vibrant week-long celebration from September 1 to 5, 2026, Philippine Normal University South Luzon (PNUSL) commemorated two momentous milestones: its 33rd Founding Anniversary and the 125th Anniversary of the Opening of the Philippine Normal School (PNS).
Carrying the theme “Thirty-three Years of Transformative Education and Nation-Building,” the celebration brought together university officials, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and local residents for a series of activities highlighting the institution’s enduring commitment to education, culture, service, and wellness.
A lively institutional parade of colors led by Banda Maharlika opened the festivities on September 1 at the PNUSL Gymnasium, ushering in the eagerly awaited Intramurals 2026. Students, faculty, and staff were grouped into four teams—the Red Torchbearers, Sapphire Titans, Golden Spartans, and Emerald Vipers—demonstrating their creativity through cheers, yells, and street dances. The opening program featured a message from Dr. Amor F. Loniza, Executive Director and Provost of PNUSL, followed by the symbolic lighting of the torch by fourth-year organization representative Rence Bernard Dante. The morning concluded with street dance performances and team yells ahead of the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals competition.
Day 2 (September 2) reflected PNUSL’s dedication to community service with a mass blood donation drive at the PNUSL ITeC Hall, held in partnership with the Department of Health, the Philippine Red Cross, and the Rotary Club of Lopez. Under the theme “Dugong Bayani, Dugtong Buhay,” 42 individuals registered, resulting in 36 successful blood donations.
In the afternoon, first-year students took center stage for Sari-Sining 2026, an arts festival spearheaded by Prof. Reynaldo C. Francia Jr. The event showcased student talent across various disciplines, including calligraphy, acrylic and watercolor painting, digital poster making, exhibit design, oratorical speaking, music and dance performances, an ArTok showcase, and movie-scene reenactments.
On Day 3, a civic outreach program titled “Serbisyo Caravan” highlighted PNUSL’s mission to bring essential government services closer to the public. Six government agencies—the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Pag-IBIG Fund, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Statistics Authority, and PhilHealth—assembled at the ITeC Hall to assist residents. Services included National ID registration, PhilHealth YAKAP enrollment, ID issuance, and record updates. Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) also provided on-site banking and financial advisory services.
Simultaneously, the “Palaro ng Lahi,” themed “Makilahok, Makisaya, Maki-Bida,” filled the PNUSL Gym with energy as participants competed in traditional games such as Bato-Bato Pick with a Twist, Shirt Relay, Human Caterpillar, Giant Volleyball, Sack Race, Hula Hoop Race, and Grab the Cup.
On September 4, the university community gathered for the PNUSL Educators’ Ball, an evening dedicated to celebration and recognition. Intramural champions and Most Valuable Players in basketball, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM), and chess received awards, alongside special distinctions like Best in Dress, Elegant Stars of the Night, and Face of the Night. The Sapphire Titans emerged as the overall Intramurals champion, followed by the Golden Spartans, Emerald Vipers, and Red Torchbearers.
The morning of Day 5 (September 5) focused on health and community engagement through the Tanglaw Run 2026 and a Zumba session, jointly organized by the PNUSL Administrative Employees Association and the PNUSL Faculty Association. The fun run featured 3-kilometer and 5-kilometer routes through Barangay Guihay before returning to campus. Afterwards, instructor Darenn Salvatus led an energetic Zumba session at the gymnasium.
The week culminated in the highly anticipated Search for Mr. and Ms. PNUSL 2026. Eight pairs of candidates competed in production numbers, summer wear, teacher’s attire, formal wear, and the question-and-answer segment. Justine Tristan Magpantay (Third-Year Level Organization) and Joana Kim Jimenez (Second-Year Level Organization) were crowned Mr. and Ms. PNUSL 2026.
More than a series of events, the week-long celebration reflected the multifaceted PNUSL experience—blending sports, culture, academics, community outreach, and leadership. As it marks these historic milestones, PNUSL continues to carry the torch of transformative education forward.
