COUNSELING AND CAREER SERVICES

  • Information and Orientation Services

The Information and Orientation Services is the comprehensive and systematic organization and dissemination of relevant and significant information to students and other individuals in order to assist students in their personal/social, educational, and career development. Various methods include printed information material, small group guidance activities, and seminars/orientations/forums. Topic varies from school adjustment, time management, developing effective study habits, etc.

  • Individual Inventory

This Individual Inventory is a service which refers to the activity of gathering data about the student. It provides a synthesis of information about the individual student which can be used to gain self-awareness and understanding. Counselor systematically collects, evaluates, and interprets data to identify the characteristics and potential of every student.

Individual counseling is a one-on-one interaction between the counselor and the counselee that focuses on interpersonal and intrapersonal growth of the person. It can be preventive, developmental, or remedial.

      • Group Counseling

Group counseling is organized and planned assistance to groups of individuals with common concern or in similar situations.

    • Testing

Testing is a service that provides the individual profile of students in areas such as intelligence, interest, aptitude, and personality traits. It seeks to identify students’ uniqueness that will contribute to a deeper awareness and understanding of oneself. Test results aid in better self-awareness and better response to self and others.

 

    • Wellness Program

Wellness Program refers to programs intended for students to become acquainted with the topics that will help them in their adjustment in school and life in general. It is also designed and implemented to meet the needs of a particular group of students in order to promote psychological wellness and prevent future occurrences of maladjustments. Programs offered enable students to address individual issues and concerns in order to be well-functioning and productive students.

    • Referral and Consultation

Referral and Consultation are the practices of helping students find needed expert assistance that the referring counselor cannot provide. Referral involves directing the client to another counselor or health professional with a different of higher level of expertise related to the student’s needs. Consultation entails the maintenance of professional affiliations and agencies for cases deemed beyong the level of expertise or resources of the university.

 

    • Follow-Up

Follow-up can be extended to individuals whom have been counselled, referred, and placed. It helps determine the status of the person who received assistance and what other assistance must be rendered so that the service is complete and holistic.

 

    • Research and Evaluation

The major purpose of the research service is to generate knowledge about the student population of PNU, as well as knowledge in various universal topics and problems with direct or indirect relevance or application to the students of the University. The major purpose of the evaluation service is to ascertain the current status of a service or activity within a frame of reference, and on the basis of this knowledge to improve the activity in terms of quality and efficiency. Once the strengths of the program are located through evaluation procedures, they may be reinforced, continued, and improved beyond their present level.

    • Career Development and Placement

Career Development and Placement is a service given to students for them to have a clearer picture and deeper understanding of the careers they have chosen. This also provides them necessary information concerning requirements, job trends, job referrals, and employment opportunities through implementing seminars or workshops that will facilitate the development of the students’ personal and professional competencies.
