The Philippine Normal University has achieved a remarkable position in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings with an overall rank of 801-1000, affirming its dedication to advancing the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The THE Impact Rankings is a global assessment of universities’ efforts in adopting and promoting the SDGs. PNU ranked high in two key SDGs: Gender Equality (SDG 5), where PNU ranked first in the Philippines, and Quality Education (SDG 4).
PNU submitted entries in four (4) categories, which resulted to the ranking below:
- 101-200: SDG 5 (Gender Equality)
- 301-400: SDG 4 (Quality Education)
- 401-600: SDG 1 (No Poverty)
- 801-1000: SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals)
This is the first time that PNU joined the THE Impact Rankings. The University, through the Linkages and International Office (LIO), began its preparation in 2021, submitting all entries by November 2022.
The results reflect the direction of PNU, the National Center for Teacher Education (NCTE), towards providing inclusive, innovative, impactful, and sustainable, teacher education programs that produce future-ready teachers and education leaders. Its outstanding ranking under SDG 5 (Gender Equality) shows a strong support system for gender and development (GAD) initiatives and advocacies that promote a safe and inclusive space for its stakeholders.
This most recent recognition is testament to PNU’s commitment to subject itself to international quality standards to become a globally-competitive teacher education institution at par with the world’s leading colleges and universities.
