
Dr. Bert J. Tuga, President of the Philippine Normal University, attended the ESD-Net 2030 Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting: Transforming Education for a Sustainable Asia-Pacific Region held at Bali, Indonesia from June 12-14, 2023. The event was organized and funded by the UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office in Bangkok, Thailand.

President Tuga was invited to be part of the Panel on Building Capacities of Educators, which aims to showcase and discuss exemplary and innovative practices in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) within local contexts.
During the panel discussion, President Tuga shared the role PNU as the National Center for Teacher Education (NCTE) in providing technical assistance and support to our education agencies and lawmakers on matters related to education and teacher education including teacher education curriculum, teacher training, and continuing professional development of teachers and school leaders. The highlight of his inputs is the projects and initiatives of PNU promoting ESD and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) among teachers and educators.

The other delegates from the Philippines were: Ms. Michelle A. Dulay, ASPNet Coordinator, Philippine National Commission for UNESCO; Dr. Meah L. Gonzaga, Director, Center for Environment and Green Technology Education, PNU Visayas; and Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, Advisor for the Future of Education, ASEAN.

The ESD-Net 2030 Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting provides an essential platform for diverse stakeholders to converge and exchange ideas on advancing ESD practices in the region. By focusing on the transformative power of education, the meeting aims to foster sustainability and address pressing challenges in the Asia-Pacific context.
