In an effort to elevate alternative and lifelong learning, the Philippine Normal University (PNU) partnered with SEAMEO VOCTECH to provide specialized training for Alternative Learning System (ALS) facilitators. The program, conducted online from November 18 to 19 and onsite from November 25 to 27, 2024, addressed the unique challenges marginalized learners face in accessing quality education. Spearheaded by the College of Alternative and Lifelong Learning (CALL), under the leadership of Dean Dr. Celia M. Ilanan, the training involved 20 participants from various PNU campuses.

The initiative aimed to equip educators with cutting-edge teaching strategies, digital tools, and inclusive practices tailored to the diverse needs of ALS learners. Modules included an in-depth exploration of the ALS framework, conducting training needs assessments, and implementing learner-centered teaching methodologies. Participants also learned innovative techniques such as integrating IT and AI to create instructional materials and assessment tools, promoting a future-ready approach to education.

Interactive sessions allowed participants to design AI-supported lesson plans and develop personalized teaching strategies using frameworks like Pedagogy, Technology, Content, and Knowledge (PTCK). Field visits to institutions such as Pusat Pembangunan Belia (Youth Development Center) and Pusat Pemulihan Brunei provided real-world insights into effective ALS practices.

The program concluded with an action planning session, during which participants crafted strategies to strengthen ALS initiatives across their respective campuses. This training underscores the shared commitment of PNU and SEAMEO VOCTECH to fostering educational equity and empowering facilitators to deliver accessible and impactful learning opportunities for all.
