
MARIKINA – The Faculty of Education Sciences (FES), through its Center for Reading and Literacy (CRL), and the Community Partnership and Extension Office (CPEO) launched on November 19 one of its extension programs dubbed as PROJECT Kindergarten Teachers’ Empowerment and Sustainability (PROJECT KiTES).

It aimed to provide self-assessment skills for teachers with regard to their strengths and weaknesses as a person and as a kindergarten teacher; to empower the current kindergarten teachers with the foundational knowledge of early childhood learning and development; to equip the current kindergarten teachers with several innovative and creative pedagogies for kindergarten instruction and assessment; and to capacitate current kindergarten teachers with partnership skills to involve parents and the community in the education of kindergarten learners.

Prof. Joyce L. Bautista led the delivery of the first module entitled “Making the Most of Yourself as a Kindergarten Teacher” while Prof. Shirley N. Cerbo headed the administration of the second module, “Understanding Children’s Development and Learning”.
PROJECT KiTES was made possible through the concerted efforts of Dr. Judy C. Bautista, CRL Head and FES Extension Coordinator, Dr. Celia M. Ilanan, FES Associate Dean, Dr. Serafin Arviola Jr., CPEO Director, FES and CPEO faculty members and staff, PNU administration, Dr. Noemi A. Valerio, Dr. Samuel C. Mergenio, and Dr. Helen V. Go, officials of SDO-Marikina, and the Marikina kindergarten teachers.
