Library Services

Aside from the regular functions performed by the library staff in connection with the acquisition, cataloging and circulation of library materials following are the library services rendered to the library users:

Current Awareness Service

This service is concerned with the preparation of lists of newly acquired and processed books by the PNU Library which are disseminated to the academic departments for their information. The lists are also circulated in the various library sections for informing the students of new library materials. The library cataloger takes charge of this service.

Library Orientation for College Freshmen

The library orientation is usually rendered during the first month of the first semester to college freshmen. Basic information about the library rules, sections, facilities, collections, personnel and services are shared to the new students. The orientation is held in several sessions at the Audio-Visual Theater or Multimedia Center.

The following forms of reference service are rendered by the librarians:

  • Guidance in the location of library materials
  • Readers advisory service
  • Answering reference questions
  • Formal and informal instruction on how to use the library reference sources.
  • Bibliographic service
  • Maintenance and circulation of news clippings
  • Indexing and disseminating periodical articles

Referral Service

This service is rendered to PNU faculty and students who may want to use the resources of other institutional libraries on a specified time. A PNU researcher is provided with a referral letter issued by the Chief Librarian through the Circulation Section. Only bonafide faculty and students can avail of the referral service.

Service to Outside Researchers

Students from other schools as well as researchers from other institutions are allowed to use the library materials upon submission of the following to the Circulation Section In-charge.

Reserve Book Service

Reserve books are library books assigned by the faculty as required reading materials for their classes. Faculty members may request titles of library books to be placed on reserve by accomplishing the “Reserve Book Request” form available in the library sections. At the end of every semester/ summer term all books placed on reserve are returned to their original location in the library.
A book placed on reserve may be borrowed on an hourly basis subject to the number of students demanding for its use at a given time.
