CENTER FOR EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY AND DISTANCE EDUCATION (CETDE)

The general function of the Center for Educational Technology and Distance Education is to “plan, design, and manage alternative delivery systems to provide access to training, information and educational services to beginning and continuing teachers who are constrained by distance, time and varied personal considerations from attending a residential school context.” It links with specific academic units of the University for instructional design of distance education courses/ programs and for the centralization of distance education systems and processes.

VISION:

Leader in the effective use of educational technology to maximize learning and to enhance distance education activities through the appropriate integration of ICT in the instructional process.

MISSION:

To equip in-service and pre-service teachers with ICT and technology integration skills that will enable them to access appropriate knowledge resources vital to the enhancement of their pedagogical skills.

To develop in-service and pre-service teachers’ capacity to create suitable learning environments that will enhance learners’ 21 st century skills, values and attitudes for proper adjustment in a globalized, information –based and technology-driven world.

INNOVATIVE “IT” SHOWCASES
Objectives: Build faculty awareness of the potentials of ICT to enhance or qualitatively change teaching and learning
Participants: Innovators and practitioners both from the academe, business and industry
Output: Showcase the technological options to effectively leverage ICT in teaching and learning

 

CREATIVE EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY FOR A
Objectives:

Build faculty awareness of the potentials of ICT to enhance or qualitatively change teaching and learning

Participants: Educators, both novice and expert practitioners.
Output:

Mentoring between novice and expert practitioners on the use of Educational technology tools for effective teaching.

 

MANAGING WITH “IT”
Objectives:

Develop skills in using technology as a tool for effective management of instruction, research and administration

Participants: School Managers
Output:

Enhanced instructional and managerial skills of school managers through technology management and information and communications technology in education

 

TRAINING FOR “IT”
Objectives:

Develop skills in using technology as a tool for effective management of instruction and research

Participants: Educators
Output:

Enhanced instructional skills of teachers through Information and communications Technology in education (multimedia presentations and internet surfing)

 

TRAINING WITH “IT”
Objectives:

Develop skills in using technology as a tool for effective management of office applications

Participants: Office administrators and rank and file personnel
Output:

Informative and structured web-based gateway for teaching-learning resources

 

TEACHING AND LEARNING PORTAL
Objectives:

INNOVATIVE USES OF INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
Objectives:

Launch innovative instructional materials for interactive teaching and learning using multimode delivery systems like face-to-face, print modules and web-based (on-line)

Participants:

Instructional technologists, faculty, graphic and web designers, ICT specialists

Output:

Collaborations with colleges/departments for content development and applications of multi-media courseware

 

BASIC EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY AND ICT TOOLS FACULTY TRAINING PROGRAM
Objectives:

Support teachers and students in the use of highly-needed ICT tools and applications

Participants:

Instructional technologists, faculty, graphic and web designers, ICT specialists

Output:

Team of faculty and staff specialists to manage a reliable and efficient user support and help desk system across colleges and departments.
