Brief History of the Center The Center was created as part of the organizational restructuring of the Philippine Normal University in June 1999. Originally named as the Center for Continuing Education by BOR Resolution No. U-17-s-1999, dated 27 August 1999, it was established as one of the university-based academic centers directly under the Office of the Vice-President for Academics. The Center was tasked to plan, design and manage programs providing continuing learning for teachers in the field. The Center for Continuing Education started to operate after the designation of its first director, Dr. Melchor A. Tatlonghari, on 21 November 2000. He was succeeded by Dr. Twila G. Punsalan in January 2003 during the administration of Dr. Nilo L. Rosas, the eighth President of the university. Alongside with the designation of Dr. Punsalan was the modification of the name of the Center to include educational leadership as an area for professional development. Thus, it became the Center for Continuing Education and Educational Leadership (CCEEL). |

The CCEEL in its full operation is continuously offering non-degree professional development programs and specially packaged training courses for teachers and school heads/managers across levels of various disciplines related to teacher education. It has already offered numerous in-service training programs at the school, division and national levels that are based on current educational trends and demands of target clientele in the field. CCEEL Vision and Mission The center aligns its program with the universitys vision of shaping quality teachers and school leaders for a better world. Established as a university-based organizational structure charged with specific responsibility of extending the universitys educational resources to clientele other than the traditional resident-on-campus students working for degree programs, the center provides non-degree professional development for teachers and school administrators across levels. In response to great demand for lifelong learning of professionals most especially to those in education, the center offers continuing education programs which cater to the professional development, educational development or personal educational interest of school managers, teachers, staff and other professionals. Other programs offered are also packaged by the center tailored-fit for organizations, and teacher groups at School Division or Regional level. The CCEEL Professional Development Programs aim to: 1. Raise awareness of in-service teachers and administrators on the changing realities of learning and school management. 2. Stimulate professional growth and improve practice in implementing educational changes in their specific areas of concern. 3. Provide a venue for exploring new ways of managing the different learning areas, content, strategies and delivery mode to effect change among the learners. The Project Team Approach is operational in implementing a specific project. Specialists who are faculty from various colleges compose the Training Team of a particular Training Program. They are invited to serve as Resource Speaker, Lecturers and Facilitators, Presiding Officers in seminars, workshops or colloquia conducted by the Center at any given time of the year. Other experts outside the university are also invited to join the Training Staff. The invitation for experts depend on the current trends and demands for training in education and educational leadership being run by the Center. The University President and or the Vice-President for Academics serve as consultants of the different programs offered and coordinated by the center. |
