DEPARTMENT OF ALLIED SCIENCES

Mission

The basic mission of the Department of Allied Sciences is to enhance the individual and social well being of its students by means of research and development, instruction and technical assistance that will contribute to the preparation of effective leaders who will be responsible for the education of productive and socially competent citizen workers.

Goals

  • Prepare and upgrade personnel to serve as effective researchers, teacher-educators, administrators, educational leaders, and teachers in public and private organizations.
  • Maintain a program of disciplined inquiry that generates and disseminates new knowledge to improve practice in education for and about technology education, home economics and non-formal education.
  • Provide professional assistance and technical expertise to school organizations, governmental agencies, and other public and private organizations at local, regional, national, and international levels.

Objectives

The Allied Sciences Department envisions their students to:

  • Acquire working knowledge of the materials, tools, and equipment, processes and products of production, distribution and utilization, and conservation of human and material resources.
  • Explore the various business opportunities and make an intelligent choice of an entrepreneurial activity.
  • Develop intellectual and functional skills essential to the pursuit of higher learning or more intensive training through apprenticeship in a gainful occupation or career.
  • Enhance individual self-reliance and productivity in meeting human needs.
  • Develop desirable attitudes and values that will contribute to effective personal, family, and community living.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

Mission

To produce a new breed of teachers, scientists, and researchers equipped with necessary competencies for coping with the increasingly technological world.

Goals

Develop competent, skilled, socially and environmentally conscious individuals committed to the task of improving society.

  • Explore the potentials of would be teachers and guide them in areas of biological research, development and training.
  • Provide dynamic leadership in shaping scientific and ethical values by building a framework for decision-making on problems and issues affecting the society,

Objectives

  • Promote development of expertise in the biological sciences in terms of critical thinking skills, scientific processes and decision-making.
  • Undertake basic science researches aimed at improving the quality of life.
  • Venture beyond the specific subjects through research considering scientific, socio cultural and ethical values.
  • Encourage students to explore problems and issues and take active stand on conservation of our natural resources.

DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY

Vision

Produce preservice and inservice teachers who are technologically literate and able to use the potentials of technology in teaching.

Mission

  • Equip preservice and inservice teachers with ICT competencies.
  • Develop preservice and inservice teachers’ awareness of the potentials of ICT in teaching and learning.
  • Ensure that preservice and inservice teachers understand the ethical, social, legal and human issues in the use of ICT.
  • Demonstrate the effective and ethical application of ICT in teaching and learning.
  • Enhance instructional practice by building a community of professionals who engage in collaborative exchanges and sharing of expertise in the use of ICT in teaching and learning.

 

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

Mission

To develop excellence in the field of mathematics and provide expertise and leadership in mathematics education through research and instruction that would answer to the country’s needs for quality human resource for national development and progress in the attainment of global goals.

Goals

The Department of Mathematics is committed to:

  • Produce highly qualified and competent mathematics teachers and BS Math graduates equipped with relevant skills for a responsible and productive life that is responsive to the needs of the time;
  • Contribute to the world’s pool of knowledge through research;
  • Promote the development of expertise in mathematics by providing training skills of critical thinking, reasoning, decision-making and scientific skills of observing and gathering data, analyzing, interpreting, hypothesizing, weighing alternatives and making conclusion; and
  • Contribute to the sustainable development of the country through enhancement of mathematics education.

OBJECTIVES

  • To strengthen the circular programs and update instructional materials and aids in mathematics education in order to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing environment.
  • To equip teachers through in-service training and scholarship the necessary competencies that will answer to the needs for developing responsive teachers and encourage them to have research-based instruction for better quality education.
  • To continue developing instructional modules in mathematics for distance education and to develop computer-intensive instructions to jibe with the progressive demands of the modern times.
  • To develop a pool of mathematics teachers who are ready and willing at all times to provide extension services for the University as well as students who have the right attitudes towards teaching mathematics.
  • To make use of educational tools such as TV, internet, games, etc., to be an aid in revolutionizing the way students learn and in teachers mastery of modern technologies.
  • To encourage students through the Mathematics Club to participate/compete in local/national as well as international competitions in mathematics.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL SCIENCES

Mission

The Department of Physical Sciences is committed to producing science teachers that are capable of responding to the demands of the information age, and beyond; teachers who are well equipped not only with content and methodology, but are equally sensitive to the needs of the students, and the community.

GOALS

The Department intends to:

  • Get involved in leading change that may help the students and faculty members grow with the times;
  • Advocate a paradigm change in the teaching and learning process which will focus on skill development and mental model change; and
  • Encourage faculty members to be more mobile and global so that they will be the agent of knowledge generation in their area of specialization.

OBJECTIVES

  • Initiate changes in the workplace of learners and teachers leading to an environment that is conducive to a healthy exchange of ideas.
  • Facilitate curricular reforms in physical science program to match the needs of the changing educational system.
  • Update and improve instructional materials such as course syllabi, laboratory manuals, modules, work texts to make these suitable to the ability of the students and the availability of resources.
  • Establish partnerships with other teacher training institutions through collaboration among the local and international universities.
  • Encourage learners and faculty members to do scientific researches to upgrade teaching practices and evaluation instruments.
  • Strengthen leadership capabilities in facilitating seminars, workshops, pre-service and in-service trainings.
  • Conduct outreach programs to update science teachers with the emerging reaching practices, current issues and content.
