COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS

  • Early Childhood Education (BECED)
    Provides students interested in the education of children six years of age and below
    With broad general education, a specialized knowledge of content, adequate pedagogical competence in handling preschool subjects, and instills in them positive attitudes and values of a dedicated, nationalistic and morally upright teacher.
  • Elementary Education (BEED)
    Provides students interested in the education of six through twelve year-old children a broad general education, a specialized knowledge of content areas, and adequate pedagogical competence to teach different elementary school subjects, and instills in them positive attitudes and values of a dedicated, nationalistic, and morally upright teacher.

UNDERGRADUATE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

  • Certificate in Teaching Program (CTP)
    This is a 24-unit program designed for non-education degree holders interested to be in the teaching profession. A graduate of the CTP is expected to teach in the secondary level. The student’s area of majorship/ specialization depends on his/her Bachelor’s degree in which area he/she also selects for the Licensure Examination for Teachers.
  • Certificate in Teaching (Elementary Education Stream)
    A 30-unit credit program designed for B.S.E. graduates or to other graduates in education-related degrees who want to meet the academic requirements for elementary level teaching. Holders of non-education degrees may be admitted in the program but have to take prerequisite 18 units of professional education.
  • Bachelor of Elementary Education as a Second Degree
    T his is a complete Bachelor’s degree program for degree holders who desire to have a Bachelor of Elementary Education as another degree. Selected courses in the earlier degree may be credited or given an equivalency for the desired courses in the BEED curriculum.
  • Preschool Education
    P rovides Bachelor’s degree holders and/ or Certificate in Teaching graduates with a specialized knowledge of content, adequate pedagogical competence in teaching children six years and below, and instills in them positive attitudes and values of a nationalistic, morally upright and dedicated teacher.
  • Special Education
    This is a 24-unit program in the undergraduate level that aims to (1) give the students a general orientation on how to handle learners with special needs; and (2) to provide students a basic general preparation for possible graduate programs in special education in narrowed down areas, e.g., teaching the intellectually disabled, the gifted, the visually impaired or the hearing impaired.

    The program pays particular attention in helping students identify learners with special needs as well as a congruent curriculum and appropriate teaching strategies, and instructional materials.

 

GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS

  • MASTERAL Non-thesis Program
    • Master in Non-formal Education (MNFE)
      This is a non-thesis graduate program in Non-Formal Education. The graduates are expected to be more of practitioners in non-formal education rather than researchers. They are expected to work with learners across ages and educational levels who are generally deprived of an opportunity to go through the formal school system.
    • Graduate Diploma in Non-Formal Education
    • Graduate Diploma in Educational Managemen
  • MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATION
    • Early Childhood Education
      This program is designed to develop/ enhance the skills and competencies of early childhood educators for their leadership function on curriculum, instruction and research.
    • Elementary Education

      This program is designed for teachers/educators interested in an in-depth orientation in the teaching-learning process in the elementary level through graduate education grounded on theories and research-based instructional practices. To develop elementary school teachers steeped in the pedagogical skills across subject areas and as well as leaders and researchers in the level of education is the primary goal of the program.
    • Educational Management
      This program is designed to develop the leadership potentials of the scholar practitioner in the educational system of the country. A graduate of the program is expected to be responsive to the educational needs of the country and can demonstrate the administrative ability to plan, organize, implement, monitor, control and evaluate school programs and system. As a whole, the M.A. program shall prepare students to become practitioners in educational management.
    • Special Education

      This program is aimed at opening more educational opportunities to the exceptional/ special learners . It provides specialized training for both the beginning and experienced teachers in varied areas of exceptionalities:
      • Streams:
      • Teaching Children with Intellectual Disabilities
        This area of special education equips the teacher to understand the meaning and etiology of mental retardation, develop teaching strategies and develop materials to maximize assistance to the mentally disabled.
      • Teaching Children with Auditory Disabilities
        This area of special education focuses on equipping teachers with instructional strategies , preparation of materials and use of sign language to assist learners with hearing disabilities in communication/ interaction and socialization.
      • Teaching Children with Visual Disabilities
        This area of special education trains teachers to provide appropriate instruction to learners with visual disabilities to allow them to acquire mobility strategies. Teachers mediate the environment of the visually impaired and help them to use non-optical, auditory, tactile and other sources of information to maximize their learning.
  • College Teaching
    A graduate program that focuses on equipping students with the essential theoretical and pedagogical expertise needed to teach in the tertiary level.
  • Non-formal Education
    The program aims to enhance the individual and social well-being by means of research, development, instruction and technical assistance that would contribute to the preparation of effective educational leaders in nonformal education who will be responsible for the education of productive and socially competent community and citizen-workers.
  • Measurement and Evaluation
    This program is designed to develop in the students skills in Research, Statistics, Testing and Evaluation. A graduate of this course has opportunity to become a consultant in the field of research and statistics, a test expert or a specialist or program evaluator.
  • Doctor of Education

    Educational Administration
    The program is for practitioners in educational management which inducts
    students to the problems and issues in educational management.
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Education

    Curriculum and Instruction

    The program aims to develop scholars in education who will be able to:
    • Engage in serious reflection and theorizing about the curriculum to be able
      to articulate future curricular directions and appropriate programs and policies.
    • Apply intellectual technical skills required in designing, developing, managing and evaluating the curriculum across levels and in different socio-cultural and political contexts.
    • Examine existing trends and issues in education vis-avis existing curriculum models, techniques and practices in order to arrive at curriculum decisions for policy making.
    • Demonstrate leadership and management skills and disposition in providing practitioners with a) intellectual tools for conceptualizing and raising curricular questions and b) appropriate theoretical and empirical bases for formulating desirable curricular outcomes and designing instructional programs.
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration
    This program is for practitioners in educational management which inducts students
    to the problems and issues in educational management.
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management
    This program is designed to help the educational managers improve their own orientation and practices, enhance their management and leadership skills in effecting quality and continuous improvement through independent research. The emphasis is on the conduct and use of research for decision-making and for a broader knowledge of the discipline.


SPECIAL PROGRAM

  • Accelerated Teacher Education model Plus (ATEM +)
    This program is an enhancement of the three-year BEED program for potentially high achieving students which includes a Master of Arts in Teaching degree with specialization in any of the existing areas appropriate for elementary level teaching on the fourth or last year of the program.
